He’d Put It Slightly Better
She looked to the sky,
the blue and brilliant stretch of infinity.
She would miss that, or would she -?
Only five minutes had passed –
since the doc said that that was it.
Not long now.
But not in so many words.
He’d put it slightly better.
But then he could go back to his kids,
and would one day go back to his grandkids.
And could look beyond today with the knowledge that there would always be tomorrow.
But she just sat looking at the sky.
Wondering how many times she would see it so blue.
So brilliant.
Wondering if the sky would turn black when
her mind did.
Wondering would she even notice.
So could only wait for ‘on steed’ to travel.
He would come for her.
And she would be waiting.
For there was nothing left for her to do.
