This is a first draft, but a story that I loved writing. I cannot express in
words the feeling that I got. It was amazing being in this world, completely
locked away from reality. And that is exactly how it was. The darkness of night
that lingered outside my window didn’t bother, the wind and rain that came
with the season held no threat.
For the first
time I was engrossed in what I was doing. For the first time in my life I was
giving my all to something. Inspired by a story I wrote in 1996, it tells us of
three friends who decide to fulfil a promise they made and go on a camping trip
before the venture into adulthood and leave their lives behind. But as the trip
becomes reality, they realise that there are certain things they all have to
have closure on before they move on with their lives.
I was living on
the Quays in Dublin City when I wrote this. Strange, strange, time but would
love to live it again. I would love a chance to make the most out of the time I
had there.
Music drove me on
writing this story, especially the Devine Comedy Album ‘Absent Friends’. I
would look at lyrics, try and see the music in the story.
