Mask

Choices we make – and take them choices –
Paths we take – but we make them clear –
The lives that we live – we live them now –
Not then, not soon – that life is here –
Make me smile right now – and I won’t frown –
It’s hard but I’ll try – not to cry –
Pretending to be – this other child –
I’ll shy right there – but not ask why –
For mines not a place – to hurt the rest –
It’s how I live now – how I must –
Soon I shall think – of me, my future –
For now I’ll try – and learn to trust.
