The Glory Of Death

Part 21 of The Resort (A Tale of Inevitability)

And so the land embraces death –
This land which we are of –
A scattered few now stand upon
The bones of those we love.

A child looks at the drifting ghosts,
He holds a dying rose,
He’s wiped his final tear away,
As this tale comes to a close.

He’ll carry on and start again –
He’ll fall but rise again.
For he know what he has to do,
And so he starts to sing:

“And they shall be remembered –
And they shall be recalled –
They gave their lives so I could see,
The greed that’s in us all.

“And they shall never die to me –
Nor to the souls that come –
The Glory of their Death is but,
The light that’s in my soul.”

A hand upon his shoulder –
He turns and there’s a girl –
She nods as if it’s all okay,
That they’ll rebuild this world.

She takes the rose away from him –
And plants it in the ground –
For soon the sun will shine on it,
And all that is around.

They’ll carry on and start again –
They’ll fall but rise again.
For they know what they have to do,
And so they start to sing:

“And they shall be remembered –
And they shall be recalled –
They gave their lives so I could see,
The greed that’s in us all.

“And they shall never die to me –
Nor to the souls that come –
The Glory of their Death is but,
The light that’s in my soul.”

And soon more souls would walk to them –
And soon they’d make their peace –
For as the world must fade sometimes,
It will also set you free.

You see we’re such a funny thing –
The journeys that we take –
Each step is small but matters,
In the choices that we make.

They’ll carry on and start again –
They’ll fall but rise again.
For they know what they have to do,
And so they start to sing:

“And they shall be remembered –
And they shall be recalled –
They gave their lives so I could see,
The greed that’s in us all.

“And they shall never die to me –
Nor to the souls that come –
The Glory of their Death is but,
The light that’s in my soul.”
