It's
Nice To Be Nice
As
a child, I never could get my head around the expression; ‘it’s better to
give than to receive’. I presumed that the logic it tried to get across was
‘if you give a really big present, you can expect one in return.’
Astonishingly, I was wrong.
What
surprised me even more was the lack of disappointment, when I realised that I
wouldn’t always be getting huge presents under the tree at Christmas.
Like a man, I took it on the chin.
But
from a child’s perspective – what’s the point in giving? Presents are all
about receiving, are they not? Getting something new? Something else to play
with? What do you get out of giving???
You
would be surprised. Think about a moment in your life when you have felt really
happy, when your smile was from something true and not just from the excitement
of getting the new ‘Spiderman Vs The Double Decker Bus Attack Setä’. Have a good think about that moment.
Now
think; when were you ever truly happier than the times you see someone else
smile because of you? And it doesn’t have to be an expensive piece of
jewellery; it doesn’t need to be a gift of any kind.
It
can be something simple as holding a door for someone, saying thank you in a café,
even saying the simple words ‘Good Morning’ to somebody you may pass in a
corridor.
You
see it’s nice to be nice. And if you are nice to someone, they may well be
nice to the next person they meet. And so on…
Everyone
touching the soul of the next, for absolutely nothing.
And
a revolution starts.
