The
Temple Of The Sacred Family
Sagrada
Família towers above you like a character from a Frank Miller Comic. Stunning
and breathtaking, you can do nothing but cower in its shadow.
Situated
twenty minutes walk from La Rambla with a green either side, this Barcelona
Temple is one of Gaudi’s crowning achievements. The tragedy being he died
before seeing it completed. Indeed, works are ongoing and when you step inside,
you know you are part of history.
But
it truly is astonishing. You feel like you have transported back to the middle
ages. To the days when those towering cathedrals across Europe were being born.
Of
course, in those days, you couldn’t pay €2 and take an elevator up to view
the city of Barcelona from on high. Shortsighted I know, but the builders of
this place have that facility there.
Now,
I don’t like heights. Can’t stand them, but to view a city of Barcelona’s
complete beauty from the height of 100 metres of so is breathtaking.
You
see the city doesn’t have any buildings that reach that high, so you can see everything.
From the Twin Tower on the beachfront, to the Olympic Monument created to
mark the 1992 Olympic games.
And
as the wind brushes the warm sunshine against your face, you do get this sense
of wonderment. A strange ‘home from home’ feeling.
Maybe
I am just being silly, but as I waited for that stone tower to fall over, I
really felt like I could live in this city.
